A tale behind its acquiring the name Bezawada is that Goddess Krishnaveni (River Krishna) requested Arjuna to make a passage for her to merge into the Bay of Bengal.
Hence, Arjuna made a bejjam (hole) through the mountains and the place came to be known as Bejjamwada which later changed to Bezawada.
Sharing his ideas at the 'Minister on a Mission' event co-hosted by TOI, the minister said that his department plans to integrate all the district cooperative banks and state cooperative banks to launch Kerala Cooperative Bank, that will have a larger role to play in the cooperative sector competing with other mainstream banks."We are planning to launch the bank in one year.
A committee headed by an expert who has worked at Reserve Bank of India will be soon constituted to prepare the detailed report on the project," the minister said.
Then at the time of British rule, the Bengali scholars who helped the British rulers in ruling, wrote and pronounced Vijayawada as Bizayawada.

Akkana Madanna Caves, at the foot of Indrakeeladri Hill, is a monument of national importance. While aiming to create four lakh job opportunities in the sector, the minister said that several initiatives for improving the basic infrastructure are to be taken for attracting flow of tourists to the state. He said that the abkari policy and waste disposal are two majorfactors that have taken a severe beating on the tourism industry , and those will have to be addressed. Also, the cooperative banks are currently under the control of Nabard, that lends out funds at 1% rate of interest to state cooperative banks which when ultimately reaches the end user, becomes 9% rate of interest after it goes through the state, district and primary cooperative banks. The minister said that though it is estimated that there are Rs 135,000 crore NRI deposits in the state, the cooperative sector banks cannot reap the benefits as the cooperative banks are under the control of Nabard and while only those banks under the control of RBI can canvas NRI deposits. As she was victorious (vijaya), the place came to be known as Vijayawada (vijaya translates to victory and wada as place/location, literally "The Place of Victory").
